You may have noted that the letters are in French cursive, this is because it’s the script I have decided to teach my kids.  The reasons behind this is because I think it is a nice script that looked easy to learn, and it is easy for me to make handwriting worksheets using  Microsoft word.  If you want the Lacing templates you can find them under downloads.

Two days off! 01/22/2010

I’m ashamed to say that my kids didn’t do any workboxes on Thursday or today L yesterday we spent the day with my sister, I Figures that seeming T and my niece both had doctor’s appointments and my sister needed my help with something I would give the kids the day off.  Then they had today off as well because I had my essay to finish for uni, so the last two days the kids have spent entertaining bout themselves and each other.  But then again I guess that the beauty of homeschooling is that we can adapt our days to what fits in with our families J

Tomorrow I will be taking my eldest 12yo DD T , and two of her friends to the local Art Gallery.  I rang the gallery to arrange an excursion for our homeschooling group next month, and while on the phone they mentioned that They had a Textiles show on now that was about to close.  After thinking about it for a couple of days I decided to take T this weekend and invited a couple of her friends.

I’m posting these photos later than I usually do but below are the photos of the kids Wednesday workboxes.  I haven’t given them as many workboxes today as I have an essay due for uni, so cut back on the workboxes and have sent the kids outside to play/ ride their bikes.

You will notice that I haven’t posted any new pictures for F, the reason for this is that I leave her with the same boxes until SHE decides she wants them changed.  There will be new things in most of her boxes tomorrow as she has decided that after doing the activities again today she wants something new in her boxes tomorrow

I spent today getting the kids workboxes ready for school today, and think we are finally organised enough to start the new year.  So I thought I would post photos of the workboxes for our firs Monday back to work.

The photo below is of T and L’s workboxes.

I have just posted our new subject cards.  We had up until now been using only number cards on the front of our workboxes, but have found that our eldest has wanted to know what subjects she would be studying on any given day.  To solve this problem I have created subject cards to join our workbox numbers on the front of the kids workboxes.

I also created WORK WITH cards, the idea of which is that the child that gets this card in their workbox has to work with the person whose photo is attached to the card.  I will laminate photos of myself and the kids and use these photos to indicate who the child receiving the WORK WITH card is to spend time with working on the activity in their box.

I have decided that with having three kids at home with me after the holidays that we will be doing a lot more unit studies. Also because of this I have made the decision to match our workbox numbers to the theme we will be studying, so over the Christmas break I will be adding all of the downloadable theme numbers to the downloads page. If any of the themes work for what you are doing please feel free to help yourself to anything you see.

Ok so I Finally got around to making some “special” workbox numbers for our DS, who at this minute is as happy as a pig in mud. LOL, I guess while I hadn’t made his workbox numbers there was always the chance that I would change my mind about homeschooling him after Christmas. Now that I have made him his very own set of (car) workbox numbers he must feel safe in the knowledge that it’s not just the girls that get to be homeschooled. If anyone would like any of the workbox numbers I have made, feel free to download them from our downloads page.

At the minute T is obsessed with Twilight and I thought I would do something nice for her so I have made her some Twilight, Number cards for the front of her workboxes.

The second T laid eyes on the number tags I made her she LOVED them.

Introduction 11/06/2009

Hi so this is the page where I’ve decided to keep all my Work box related stuff!

So for those who don’t know, I’m a homeschooling mother of 3 great (most of the time) children! For various reasons (the main being the bullying problem in today’s schools) we began homeschooling our eldest about six months ago. So at this time I’m only homeschooling my eldest DD 11yo “T” and my 3yo DD “F” (she refused to be left out, LOL), but beginning the end of the year I will also begin homeschooling our 7yo DS “L”. It has been his belief that I have only been holding off on homeschooling him because I like to torture (which DOSN”T happen to be the case) him! I am only thankful that our son had such a lovely teacher this year, it has given me the time I needed to work out how to teach the kids myself.

I only recently stumbled across work boxing, so for us we are still trying to iron out all the kinks and find the perfect fit for all of my children. We are two weeks into this adventure, and while I like to try new things (often losing interest in them once the sparkle wears off, to move on to something new) I believe that this is a method we will not be abandoning. We are in our first year of homeschooling and while it has been great we have struggled to get organised. Having tried various methods including an extensive array of timetables to try to get our days/weeks to run smoothly, nothing has even come close to the ease and tear free days that workboxes have supplied us with.

With this one little alteration to our set up I have went from one frustrated Mum (madwoman), to a much happier less stressed version of my once frazzled self! I have discovered the way I believe homeschooling should have always been for us.  Our days are now filled with everyone knowing exactly what they need to accomplish for the day, and me being able to make SURE that everyone has something fun to look forward to in their boxes.

Better than all of this is the happy knowledge that I am now making the best use of all the supplies that have sat in the darkest recesses of our cupboards for the past several months. So not only are we now better organised but we are also no longer wasting money. Yes it was a VERRY good day that I was surfing the net and stumbled across the concept of workboxes!
